What is All About Deco?
All About Deco arose from the idea to make a database where Deco lovers can find everything they need to know about Deco. It evolved into a website with tutorials, reviews and techniques for and written by decolovers.
What is Deco?
Deco is a Japanese invention, coming from their kawaii (cute) - culture.
Deco or Deco-den comes from the Japanese word [デコ電] dekoden, short for decoration denwa or decoration phone.
It's the art of decorating your phone with different materials, mostly rhinestones or fake whipped cream. It transformed from only phones to card cases, watches, laptops, ... Anything you can imagine really with a surface flat enough to add things to.
Most people would think this is tacky or over-the-top. This is the point, being whimsical and over-the-top. Decorating the things you use daily, instead of having them boring, why not spice them up a bit and make them show who you really are.
In Japan there are professional deco-ers where you can let them add a design to your mobile phone.

What are those cute things you use to cover up your cellphone?
Those are cabochons. They have a flat back and come in all kind of different shapes and sizes. You have roses, hello kitty, bows, fruit, food and a lot more.
With their flatback they are easy to glue to a flat surface.

What are those shiny little stones on your cellphone?
Those are called rhinestones. To use in deco you are looking for the ones with a flat back. There are also ones that you can 'heat-set' but those are used for clothing.
If bought in craft stores they can be very expensive. For more information about them, please visit our page about Rhinestones

What do I need for deco?
A page about a basic toolkit is currently in the making. Be sure to check back soon!
Where can I find materials/supplies/tools?
At the moment we are making a list of local shops in countries to where you can find different supplies.
What if I don't want it to be permanent?
This is something we strive for. When you deco, be sure to protect the device you're deco-ing. You can purchase a clear plastic case for your phone and decorate that. You can also apply the sticky see-through material which is used to cover books. Just cut the right shape, stick to your base and deco. When you're tired of the design, you can pull it off and make a new one! There's also another way. Apply a special base like this. Deco and peel of the design when you want a new one.
WARNING: When you don't protect your cellphone or any other device and you deco it like that. If it breaks your warranty doesn't count anymore. So make sure the deco you do can be REMOVED!!
